You do need a spreader tool. Worked great.

I am glad we purchased the spreader tool because there is nothing in my husband's vast inventory of tools that would have performed the job! First time we have replaced slings in our chairs and it definitely made the job easier!

I couldn't figure out why anyone would spend this much for this tool until I tried to do the job myself! After two hours and help from two different neighbors (and still no success), I finally purchased the tool. 30 minutes after I got the tool, both my chairs were done and I was sitting on my deck. Wife says "don't be so cheap next time".

I replaced my slings but for the life of me could not spread the rails enough to put in the supports. This tool did the trick. Easy to use and time saving. Thanks for having this!

Spreader tool works well and a must have to replace the sling covers. Well worth the money. Fit our 18 and 17.5 inch wide frames perfectly.

Seems a little spendy, but is totally necessary ......do not think you can pull this installation off without it......you will have a very happy experience with this tool and the per cost per chair will make you a satisfied customer.

The spreader we ordered from you was delivered quickly. It serves the purpose for which it was intended. It made the job so much easier than before we had the spreader. The price was reasonable but the shipping was a little high, but we needed the product so we ordered it. thanks for good service.

I tried everything I could think of to avoid spending $70 (45 + 25) on your spreader tool but in the end I caved. I was unable to spread the frame far enough for the tension bar under the seat area until I removed the pair of bolts closest to the front edge of the chair. That gave the frame enough flex to spread with the fabric. However, I could not overcome the twisting and torquing of the spreader tool with just one clip on each end. I thought if I had two clips on each end it might have held but I came up with a better idea. I turned the spreader over so that the flange went under the frame rather than sitting on top. I prevented the flange from gouging the fabric by putting a small block of wood about 5/8 in thick between the spreader and the side of the frame where the force is applied. This created a short lip that went under the frame but not far enough to harm the fabric. As I applied force with the spreader tool, the frame spread and the fabric tightened on the lip of the tool preventing it from twisting. I still used the clips but only to secure the blocks of wood and hold everything in place until the tension took over. So yes, your took works and does the job but I think it is over priced ($45 including shipping would be reasonable) and I had to modify the way it is used in order to make it work for me.

We ordered and received our spreader bar within 5 days and successfully finished our installation of our patio chairs; saving lots of money by doing it ourselves. Seriously, there is no other way to easily and safely perform this task without the spreader bar due to the amount of force required to spread the frame with the fabric installed. It may seem like a bit of an investment but I am sure we will use it when we change our fabric again in 5-7 years and now have a specialized tool to loan our neighbors.
